ETC Embroidery Supplies has launched a new Fibre Unravelling Spray, which it says is ideal for use on all soft or lightweight garments such as polo shirts, Tshirts, dress shirts, blouses and nylon fabrics.
These fabrics have a tendency to pucker, pull and distort shape during embroidery and even sometimes, the fabric will get pushed into the throat plate of the machine. All embroiderers have this problem, says ETC. Some will try to fix it and others will turn a blind eye to the problem.
The Fibre unravelling spray works by making the fabric slightly stiffer and stops stretching of the yarn, which then resolves these problems.
"This product works in conjunction with your current backing," explains the company. "Most people use a non fusible backing, which means the backing alone cannot overcome these problems.
"The pictures show the same fabric with the same logo. One fabric has been sprayed with the Fibre Unravelling Spray and the other only has a tear away backing. Although it is not easy to see the difference in a picture, it gives some indication of the difference the product makes."
The spray is very easy to use, says ETC, simply spray onto the back of the fabric and leave it for a few minutes to dry. Use in a well ventilated place as the vapour smell is similar to that of nail polish. Always test your fabric before bulk use as some fabric finishing is not suitable for this product.
