Norman Ronald from GS UK talks about the importance of keeping up with the latest embroidery software updates and outlines the newest version of the company's ApS-Ethos software

Commonly these days it seems that most businesses invest in assets that are not always those that return income to the business. The most successful enterprises invest regularly in the assets that assist production and efficiency. In embroidery terms it is therefore important to keep up with the latest developments in the software market place to ensure that your designers take the least possible time to produce the most effective designs.

The ApS-Ethos suite of embroidery software has been in development for over 21 years and during that time GS UK's aim has been to create a range of software that is simple to use yet extremely powerful. The advances and innovations that have occurred over that number of years have been vast.

Norman Ronald at GS UK says: "Typically, for less than £1 a day current users of the APS Ethos are enjoying telephone support and receiving annual updates including new features and tips. Where else can you receive such value to assist your business?"

Ronald claims GS UK has followed Microsoft's lead when it comes to contiunually developing. The commitment to increase the number of software developers working on the ApS-Ethos suite of software guarantees that it remains at the cutting edge of embroidery software, he says. Coupled with the experienced support team available to assist and train on future products, the ApS-Ethos software is a definite advantage to any garment decoration company within the textiles industry for now and the future, he adds.

Caroline Jones, one of the many software trainers at GS UK, with over 15 years' experience, says: "The constant research and development that goes into the production of the ApS-Ethos suite of software has culminated in Version 10 of the software. This latest release from GS UK unites a brand new interface alongside numerous new features. All of which are designed to simplify the embroidery design creation process while also increasing productivity times."

Version 10 of the software enables the user to customise existing toolbars or create their own and position them anywhere on screen. This aids production speed as floating toolbars for specific tasks can be created which enable faster access to tools.

Ged Levers, design department manager, says: "The further innovation of this latest version is the Plug in for Corel Draw (Version 12 or above) and Adobe Illustrator (CS). This allows a vector file to be sent directly from either program straight into the ApSEthos software ready for automatic conversion or manual digitising. The resulting smooth transition from one program to another can again increase productivity."

Version updates do not always solely provide new features, they can also offer enhancements to existing tools. Quite often these changes and modifications can occur as a direct result of customer feedback. GS UK says it finds one of the best ways to move its software products forward is to request and listen to feedback from its worldwide users. "Who better to suggest advancements to a product than those people it was designed for in the first place? says Ronald.

For example, in the case of the ApS-Ethos Software the Stitches to Outlines tool is a very powerful characteristic that has now been modified and is included as standard in all editing and digitising levels.

This tool allows users to convert any existing stitch designs into ‘outlines', and is particularly useful for changing the density and underlay of stitch files and rescaling designs.

Other inclusions, such as additional lettering styles, ensure that the products continue to advance and develop and are able to provide solutions to any new demands that may be placed upon them.

Decorators will have the chance to see version 10 of ApS-Ethos first hand at the GS Autumn series of roadshows in Newbury on the 10th September; Leeds-Brighouse on the17th September; and Glasgow on the 29th October. Contact GS for your personal invitation.
