Innovation in Decoration
Slick Stitch is proud to have developed the largest embroidery production facility in Europe and a reputation as a leader in service and innovation throughout the entire decorating process.
Published:  25 July, 2008

Slick Stitch started business in 1985 with a single 12 head Tajima embroidery machine.  The company quickly gained a reputation for rapid turnaround, confidentiality and service, and grew in size throughout the nineties, back in the days when on-shore production in the UK still existed.  As large production began to move outside the UK Slick Stitch developed as an embroidery sub-contractor with a customer base largely consisting of other embroiderers.

Contract Embroidery

Today with over 290 new embroidery heads at their disposal, operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week the company embroiders around 60,000 garments a week and is a dominant force in the UK contract embroidery market. Proud to be sole suppliers to the largest workwear, schoolwear and promotional houses, they have recently signed sole supplier agreements with major Global sportswear firms to not only embroider but also pick, pack and distribute plain and decorated product across Europe.

Digitizing Services

In addition to its contract embroidery service Slick Stitch also digitize hundreds of designs each week for their own customers and other embroidery houses. They employ 3 full time digitizers who punch almost 300 of the highest quality designs each week, whilst providing a guaranteed next morning service. The quality of their work is proven by minimum amendment return rates and thus very satisfied customers who return again and again.

Badges

From their offshore facility the company also produces thousands of badges for its customers.  The bespoke service provides UK quality at offshore prices with badges available in a variety of finishes including embroidered, pvc, metal and enamel and a number of backings such as plastic, heat sealed, adhesive and Velcro.

 Market Comment

Commenting on recent developments and market trends the company said  "We've noticed ever decreasing deadlines which we've had to adapt to. 24 hour production, multiple account managers and further machinery have helped us become the best at "rapid response" decoration."

Slick Stitch went on to say "Over the last year we have also seen more of the larger embroidery production move back to the UK. This is because of rising prices abroad and the benefits of UK quality and service.  Also with the larger volume required for offshore production, customers are better managing their cash flow by ordering smaller, but more frequent UK orders.  Again increasing our production capacity has helped us adapt to the changing scene."

Further Developments

In respect to the company's plans on catering further for the needs of their customers Slick Stitch commented "We've always been known for our embroidery quality, service and turnaround. However, we have recently undertaken a study to look at our customer offering in more detail.  When we broke the process down we noticed the major weakness was "stock visibility".  Our customers were not able to confirm stock availability without calling to us, so we have decided to introduce an interactive warehouse system, which emails customers at the point of stock entering our premises and provided them with a scanned copy of any accompanying paperwork."

Furthermore the company states "We have also started a pick/pack/distribution facility for our larger customers who deposit plain stock with us and require us to distribute both plain and decorated product.  This means we become an even more integrated part of our customers supply chain."

In respect to environmental issues Slick Stitch says "We have recently adopted a formal "green policy".  We now recycle more of our waste product than ever, we have a strict waste separation procedure to maximize waste recycling with industrial bailers used to crush waste down to a tenth of its original size. Energy savings are being made in both workshop and office.  With more customer interest in the subject we are offering greener alternatives and are exploring different raw material options for threads & underpapers."
