Taking ethical to new lengths
Published:  27 June, 2008

Menswear, like women's clothing is influenced by the trends we see on the catwalk and in street fashion, says Mantis. "Both are equally influenced by the music and film scenes and to some extent by what we see worn by celebrities," says md Prama Bhardwaj. "Menswear arguably, is also more heavily influenced by sportwear. All this and many other factors are taken into consideration when we introduce new styles into the Mantis collection."

Currently styles are generally focusing on longer body lengths, but for casualwear the classic Men's Tee continues to be the firm fashion favourite, reinventing itself to incorporate the latest trends, and versatile enough to be used for anything from promotional to corporate events, says Mantis.

"Growing awareness of organic cotton and environmental concerns have led consumers to look more closely not only at what their clothing is made from, but at how it's made. This is reflected in trends towards ethical and environmentally sound production, which has seen growing numbers of organic cotton styles being introduced to the market," says Bhardwaj.

To cater for both of these trends, in 2008 it introduced the M104-TLC Organic Men's Jersey Box Tee. Made from 100% organic combed cotton this lightweight Single Jersey T-shirt has a longer, leaner body shape and is available in four colours and sizes up to XL.

Comfortable fashion is key in menswear, points out Mantis, and an important consideration when developing new styles. "Where women are often prepared to sacrifice comfort for fashion, men simply won't," says Bhardwaj.

Mantis only uses combed cotton, so all fabrics in the Mantis range are high quality, soft and breathable. For extra stretch and performance in some styles, it has also added 5% elastane to its Jersey, Loop-back fleece and Pique fabrics for menswear.

The Stretch360º symbol indicates these styles, such as the sporty M52 Men's Active Contrast Hoodie and matching M54 Men's Contrast Sports Pants, the M58 Men's Stretch Polo or M200 Men's Stretch360 T-Shirt.
