Multi-brand distributor PenCarrie is delighted at how well the many new menswear styles listed for 2008 have been selling. Andrea Charteris, customer services manager for the company, says: "New styles from top brands are often instant winners; we've seen it this year as in years past.
It's satisfying for garment decorators to be able to offer customers a choice that includes some totally new options; it also shows they are professional and up-to-date with the market and latest changes. Ladieswear has been notably explosive in recent years, but there has been quite a revolution in menswear for the promo market too."
She highlights some of the new casualwear styles for men introduced this year by Jerzees Colours, Skinnifitmen and Front Row: "The designs are all based on current high street fashion. Fabrics have a new softness; and there are styling details which add to the overall appeal of the garments and the pleasure of wearing them."
The six new styles from Jerzees Colours include long sleeve and short sleeve t-shirts; a baseball tee; polo shirt; full-zip sweatshirt; and a hoodie. All have an extra soft feel to them; and there are some neat finishing touches, says PenCarrie. For example, the Jerzees Colours 223M Original Hooded Top has velvet trim inside the neck and the kangaroo pocket openings. It is a chunky, comfy, lovable style made from a resilient yet soft 330gsm 80% cotton/20% polyester mix fabric. The quality of the design, right down to the double thickness hood, is evident throughout. On top of this, the 223M appeals equally to men and women (sizes are from S to fit chest 36/38" up to XXL to fit chest 44/46"). Colour choices are light oxford; old navy; or vanilla (all with vanilla stitching).
Early in 2008 Skinnifitmen also introduced six new styles for men; all proving to be in demand according to PenCarrie. Polos and tees feature in the line-up (including a sleeveless tee; and two ‘fineweight' styles - one a v-neck short-sleeve tee, the other a long sleeve cargo tee). There is also a cargo jacket (SF26), "well worth a look at", according to Charteris. Made from 100% cotton canvas, unlined (and very simple to decorate), this is an easy-to-wear smart-casual jacket with a full zip, studded windflap and stud closings on cuffs - the studs adding to the look as well as being practical. For hotter weather, the SF105 Skinnifitmen Modern Essential Sleeveless T-Shirt is all that its name implies : the cool 96% cotton fabric incorporates 4% elastane to give this popular ‘vest' style the right degree of stretch for a fashionable fit.
Front Row Collection, the sporty-looking leisurewear range for men and women, has also introduced new menswear styles in fabrics that are soft-to-touch yet hard-wearing. The three new menswear designs are: FR40 Super Soft Zip Neck Sweatshirt; FR42 Super Soft Jersey Polo Shirt; and FR43 Super Soft Long Sleeve Rugby Shirt. In all cases, an emerized finish (where the surface of the fabric is brushed to raise the fibres) gives the garments their super-soft, almost sueded feel.
