Life after football

If like me, you are breathing a sigh of relief that the football season is now over, make the most of it because there are plenty of other sporting events waiting on the sidelines to take its place. Just when I think I may finally get the attention of my boyfriend again, along comes the cricket ... or the motor racing ... or the tennis ... or the golf - you get the picture! But while I despair at this never ending cycle of sport, it is of course great news for those of you in the garment decoration industry.

So it makes sense that one of the biggest features in this month's issue is Sportswear, starting on page 58. It is literally crammed full of information from all the brands and distributors, from technical fabrics and teamwear to the more traditional cricket wear, football kits... you name it.

Staying with sport, PROMOTA's article on page 75 looks at the sporting events garment decorators should be looking to target this year, and suggests ways of making the most out of the merchandising opportunities they present. Together with the sportswear focus these should set you up nicely for the summer.

With so much opportunity, be it from sportswear or just plain promo wear, it seems crazy that there is no evidence or data out there to back up the effectiveness of printwear. Surely it would be easier to sell the concept to marketing managers and the like if you had some data to back up your claims? Marketing guru Paul Clapham thinks so, and he addresses the issue on page 27. It really is food for thought and both he and I would be interested to get your feedback on the subject.

The other big feature this month is womenswear, with styles and fashions to suit pretty much any requirement you can think of - proving that unisex promotional clothing really is a thing of the past.
