The company predicts that the corn carrier bag - which is like a traditional carrier bag, only it completely biodegrades leaving no toxic residues - will become a big hit this year.

Made completely from degradable pellets derived from corn, after its useful life has come to an end the corn bag can be returned to the environment in the same way as any natural occurring substance such as vegetables, leaves and grasses. The bio-degradability and compostability of the materials in it have also been measured according to ISO14855.

As well as being 100% anti static the corn bags are strong enough to be used as traditional carrier bags for shopping, for general packaging and as bin liners for waste disposal.

"Plastic bag alternatives such as Jute saw a significant growth in popularity in 2007 against a move away from traditional plastic bags. However, we feel that the corn carrier bag has fantastic potential," said Eco Incentives director Matt Franks. "Not only is it extremely tactile but it has very good print space, is available in a range of sizes and, when it does come to the end of its useful life, is 100% biodegradable."

Eco Incentives also predicts that the Eco Umbrella will be big news in 2008, with a rain proof canopy made from 100% recycled Polyester, a frame manufactured using 70% recycled steel and aluminium, and a handle made from 100% recycled Plastic Bottles bottles.

The Eco Umbrella folds to just six inches when closed, making it easy to carry, and is available in a range of colours.
