Balmoral offers a range of wool-blends and 100% Acrylic yarns for school knitwear in order to hit different price points. In 100% Acrylic, Black and Mariner Blue are now manufactured for Balmoral by its Eastern European partner in the same Balmoral NewTPA used inhouse for bespoke styles and shades, giving Balmoral's customers significant savings, says Carden. Other colours can also be manufactured offshore if there is sufficient quantity.

Carden adds that there is a definite trend towards knitwear in 2008, particularly for girls. Balmoral has launched the 'Selkirk' - a skinny-fit girls sweater. "This is proving very popular and in some schools is replacing the sweatshirts that girls consider unflattering," says Carden.
