Fruit of the Loom reports increased sales of its Children's styles into the UK school wear market during 2007, following improvements to the garments' quality and performance.
A succession of carefully considered and rigorously tested changes and improvements to Fruit of the Loom's core school wear products has been implemented over the past 18 months. The Children's 65/35 Polo, for instance, can now be washed at temperatures up to 60°C, for really stubborn stains. The Children's Raglan Sweat and Set-In Sweat - the cornerstones of many modern school uniforms - have also seen improvements: both garments now feature Fruit of the Loom's next-generation 70%cotton/30% polyester (260/280 gm/m2) fleece, featuring 100% cotton facing. "The next-generation fleece is ideal for the school environment, as it vastly reduces pilling and will stand up to the tough conditions the garments are subjected to in the playground," says Alison Woodvine, European Brand Manager.
The new Children's Sweat Jacket is also made from the next-generation fleece and is expected to have an instant impact on the schools market in 2008. "A growing number of schools are banning their pupils from wearing hooded sweatshirts; the new Children's Sweat satisfies both the needs of the schools and the tastes of today's fashionconscious pupils," says Woodvine.
She adds: "Garment decorators and traditional schoolwear suppliers are facing unprecedented pressure from the supermarkets, yet sales of Fruit of the Loom Children's garments into the schools market are increasing. Customers are recognising that our range represents a truly costeffective schoolwear choice: the garments are affordable and made to last, offering the best possible combination of quality and value."
