David Abrahams, marketing manager at PenCarrie, sums up urban lifestyle clothing and the opportunities for garment decorators when he says: "This is clothing that lets people show their individuality and love of life and it provides a constant stream of fresh sales opportunities as a result. Popular with those who put surf, sand and sea high on the agenda, the clothing is equally sought after by ‘townies' who like the way it combines funky fashion with a relaxed sporty look and makes them stand out from the crowd."

He continues: "We are now seeing the high street's success with urban lifestyle clothing mirrored in our own promotional clothing sector. Although considered to be niche, this is a market that has seen steady growth over recent years and I believe it will continue to grow in the future. New styles are devoured by end-users who are always hungry for the next design or colourway. The key brands in our market, such as Wombat, are constantly introducing innovative designs to feed that hunger, generating fresh sales for garment decorators.

"At the same time, the market is also widening. Urban lifestyle clothing is no longer the preserve of mid-twenty-year-olds and is now worn by teens up to thirty-somethings and beyond. Our customers also tell us that they are supplying the clothing to an increasingly diverse group. Initially most interest came from surf shops, surf schools and extreme sports centres; nowadays, spas and country leisure hotels are just as keen to offer the clothing for sale in their shops."

All 12 new styles introduced by Wombat for 2008 are being stocked by PenCarrie. Of these, seven are made from 100% Fairtrade ceritifed cotton, bringing the total number of Wombat's Fairtrade cotton designs to 13. Fairtrade is an issue high on the agenda for many urban lifestylers;Wombat's styling of its garments also reflects latest thinking, this time with regard to fashion trends. For example, the WB159 Girls Tumby Vest, one of the new Fairtrade designs, has a racer back and a long length body with a drawcord around the hip. Another new Fairtrade design, the WB166 Girls Birabee Vest will also be a hot seller this summer, PenCarrie predicts. Individual touches on this strappy v-neck style include the two pouch pockets and the rouched bottom hem. Contrast stitching adds interest too: choose javan dawn (a soft blue) with turquoise stitching; or sunflower (yellow) with pale blue.

Skinnifit is another lively brand with a number of styles likely to appeal to urban lifestylers. New designs for 2008 and perfect for Spring include its SK26 Ladies Cargo Jacket and, from Skinnifitmen, the SF26 Cargo Jacket. Made from 100% cotton canvas and available in either black or olive, each of the two jackets has its own distinctive look yet complements the other perfectly.
