A move to modular machines
Published:  28 February, 2008

Modular machines are fast becoming the standard in the embroidery industry, says Amaya UK, which believes their efficiency far outweighs that of the standard fixed machines.

"With the fixed type machine it is difficult to organise the orders of today's typical production," it says. "Orders are now very varied and can be as low as one to anything around a hundred. If you have an order for one, or are doing a sample, you would have to switch of the other heads and leave them idle. If you have a thread break all the heads would stop until it's re-threaded. The speed of the fixed machines is also lower than modular machines."

However, Amaya UK believes that modular embroidery machines eliminate these inefficiencies. "Machines can be easily programmed to cater for any size of production from one to thousands," it says. "If a thread break occurs, only the offending head would stop leaving the rest in production. And If you have a machine problem, only that head would need to wait for repairs. Because modular machines are individual units they can operate at much higher speeds than the fixed ones."

Other latest technology includes fully automatic thread tensioning. The Amaya XT modular machine now allows full automation with ‘acti-feed', which claims to give pefect tension regardless of the type of material or thread you use. The machine also has ‘colour grouping', which allows for the machine to change to another needle position with the same colour in the case of a thread break. The machine also comes with a smaller sewing arm, allowing for direct embroidery onto pockets and other smaller areas.

Amaya now also has the ability to read from a bar-code system. This means that all the job information can be transferred directly from the barcoded worksheet to the Amaya.
