Those of you who were glued to the TV every Saturday night for months as Strictly Come Dancing brought some excitement to those dark winter nights (go on, admit it, you were hooked too), will know the importance of five words uttered by the ultra glamorous Tess Daly after each dance - The Judges' Scores Are In.
Well, I may not be as glamorous as Tess (it's all in the lighting you know), but I can tell you that our very own judges' scores are in - for the Printwear & Promotion Excellence Awards.
As one of the judges myself I can tell you that it was a very comprehensive judging session (with less quarrelling than on Strictly!) and no decision was made lightly. The judging session is, however, only part of the process. It is now up to you to vote for those companies you think should be the winners. You will find all the details of the finalists, together with information about their entries and how to vote on pages 67-77.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who took the time to enter, and also our sponsors - Continental Clothing, BTC Activewear and the BPMA - for helping us get this inaugural event off the ground. It's never easy getting a brand new event up and running, especially when you're asking people to do even more with their time and to commit to the ‘unknown', so to speak. But we have good reason to believe that the market needs and wants this event, and that the companies and individuals working within it deserve some recognition. We have been pleased with the level of interest so far and are confident that we will put on a good, enjoyable and well-attended industry event.
So, if you haven't yet booked your place or table at the black-tie Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner (March 3, National Motorcycle Museum, Birmingham - to coincide with the P&P Exhibition) do so now, whether you entered the awards, or are a finalist, or not. Not only will it be an invaluable networking opportunity, it is also a chance to reward your team or entertain your customers after a hard couple of day's work at the Exhibition. For more details call Tony Gardner on 01622 699173.
I would also urge anyone reading this to start thinking ahead to next year's event: is there a company you work with that you would like to nominate for instance? Or are you doing something that none of your competitors are and believe it's worthy of recognition? Keeping the awards ticking over at the back of your mind during the coming year will make entering seem a lot easier and less daunting. So get thinking, and remember, this is not the time to be modest!
That's all from me for now. Hope you enjoy the issue.
