The results of a promotional goods survey have found that most people keep promotional merchandise with them, and more than half have bought from the company that supplied the gift.
Source-e, which conducted the ‘What's in your bag or briefcase?' survey, found that nine out of 10 respondents would retain an item of promotional merchandise they had been given in their bag or briefcase.
The results also showed that over two-thirds would keep the item rather than pass it on to a family or colleague member, while 71% had heard of the company that gave them the item. The same number could name the company that gave them the item, suggesting that repeat exposure to a frequently used item is kept at the forefront of people's minds, with 90% of respondents agreeing that promotional merchandise increases brand awareness.
According to the findings, the USB stick is second only to pens as the most frequently carried item and second most important.
David Lebond, executive director for Source-e and chairman of the BPMA said: "This is further evidence of the positive link between promotional merchandise, branding, and sales."
He added: "The repeat exposure to a brand everyday of the week has a positive effect on how business people react to that brand."
