Jerzees' schools supplies
Published:  07 April, 2005

Jerzees has been a prime brand in the schoolwear market for many years, and 2005 sees the company expand further with new launches. Printwear & Promotion learned more.

Jerzees is delighted to be releasing the new look 2005 schoolwear catalogue, offering a complete uniform solution in an easy-to-follow A4 format.

By working closely with schools across the country, Jerzees has established a range that really delivers on the promise of providing high quality uniforms in key school colours and styles.

As fair labour principles continue to move up the social agenda, Jerzees is also leading the way in terms of an ethical code of conduct for all its factories. As such, anyone wearing, or buying, Jerzees' schoolgear can do so safe in the knowledge that the garment was produced in accordance with the Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production (WRAP) principles and in compliance with Öko-Tex environmental standards.

In addition to its commitment to ethically sound principals, the new catalogue also reflects Jerzees' commitment to the quality of its products. Jerzees recognises that schools and parents alike need to trust their chosen uniform and be confident that the quality will not change wash after wash, term after term.

As with the guarantee that clothes get dirty, Jerzees pledge that their uniforms will continue to look and feel great no matter how many times they are worn. This includes the use of durable fabrics which are designed to be practical and made to last. Last year saw the addition of a fabulous range of hard-wearing knitwear from Jerzees' Russell Collection.

Knitted from CottonBlend, which combines a soft cotton handfeel with great performance and style, the Russell Collection is machine washable at 40°C and can be tumble dried on low.

Jerzees' Director of Business Development, Jacqui Gale, explained the rationale behind the new Schoolgear Solution, 'The Jerzees name has always been synonymous with quality and consistency, both of which are of paramount importance to any school selecting a uniform.'

Jacqui continued, 'We have worked hard to maximise the overall length of service of every garment whether by ensuring it retains its shape and colour or, for some of our garments, by adding extra protection such as stain-resistant coatings. The addition of the Russell Collection last year adds to the offering, bringing a contemporary fabric and new styles to the fore at a very affordable price.'

Any school keen to demonstrate sound procurement practices can be certain that Jerzees' schoolgear is second to none in terms of ethos but, just as importantly, also offers great value for money and outstanding lifetime value.

Jerzees is also delighted to be releasing a new polo shirt designed specifically for the schoolwear market this summer. The 539BT Tipped Polo Shirt, with contrast collar detailing, is aimed at schools that require an alternative to formal shirts, but a smarter uniform appearance than standard polos.

'Our ongoing feedback from schools across the country suggests there is a real gap in the market for a casual alternative to shirts which still retains a smart edge, and our product development team has produced a superb garment to respond to this demand,' explains Jane Saba, Product Development Manager for Jerzees.

The 539BT is constructed with Jerzees' unique double yarn, based on the popular 539 adult and children polo range, which provides a smooth quality feel and increased durability for repeated washing and wearing - important criteria for any parent.

Another feature making this garment distinctive is the tipping, explains Mrs Saba. 'The inclusion of tipping on the collar allows schools to differentiate their uniforms from other schools, or identify different 'house' colours within schools, whilst also providing a smarter appearance.'

'We have purposely chosen tipping colours which complement our already popular 762 raglan sweatshirts, which is ideal for schools who wish to retain a "uniform" element with or without sweatshirts. Feedback to date suggests it will be hugely popular once we launch the product in June.'

The 539BT fits into Jerzees' already well established Schoolgear collection, which is regularly extended with new uniform garments in key school colours and styles. Last year, for example, saw the introduction of two superb new hard-wearing Russell Collection knitwear garments, bringing contemporary fabric and new styles to the fore at very affordable prices.

Jerzees' Marketing Manager Jackie Young added, 'Ongoing market research has highlighted that parents tend to buy embroidered polos from schools at the start of the school calendar, but thereafter will buy from large retailers for the rest of the year.'

'The 539BT is clearly differentiated from large retailers' polos, and will therefore generate loyalty to schools' specific uniform collections. This not only makes business sense for schools but ensures pupils look smart and stylish in the playground, term after term.'
