Quayside
Worth the weight
Published:  06 February, 2008

Distributor Quayside says that the T-shirt market has changed in several ways over the years. "Traditionally weight was a key factor. The heavier the T-shirt the more expensive it should be. The situation has changed considerably with lighter weight T-shirts become more popular," it says. "Touch is also a much more important factor. We have seen a big increase in the sales of T-shirts with a soft feel despite being lighter in weight."

Although sales on basics remains strong, says Quayside, fit and styling have become more and more important and it has seen sales increase on fashion styled products. Tighter fits and distressed products have both proved to be popular.

For 2008 it predicts the continued trend of fashion products and more Organic products.

Quayside's range includes T-shirts from several companies, including a basic style from JHK, the Regular 150gsm T-shirt, which comes in 20 colours available from stock covering adults and children's sizes. This is a budget price T-shirt, says Quayside, with a fine gauge knit, which is ideal for screen printing.

On the fashion side Quayside stocks the Fanshirt Sweety (Ladies') and Teddy (Men's) T-shirts, which have a fashion fit and are both made with super combed soft cotton.

In terms of a heavier style, it offers the Saf 8 Men's Ring Spun T-shirt, which is produced from fairly traded 100% Indian organic cotton. "This is retail quality, made from combed yarn so it has smooth touch," says Quayside. "It has a fashion spec so it looks great on and is available in a range of fashion colours." It also has a plain neck label, making it ideal for re-labeling.
