Performance t-shirts

The t-shirt has always been a wardrobe staple, and its popularity is primarily due to its versatility, says Tombo. Retaining the same basic shape, the humble t-shirt has gone from offering only a few colour selections and sizes, to including the most cutting edge technology in terms of materials.

Sports t-shirts are now more technical after the introduction of fabrics and more streamlined shapes that help enhance performance. More fitted, longer-length shapes have become popular, partly as a response to the fact that sportsmen and women are becoming more body conscious (wanting to show off athletic builds), and partly because fitted shapes reduce friction and thus improve performance. Clever seams and panelling have made this new fitted shape possible, and moving side seams (rather than tubular knots) help create better air flow around the body.

In terms of design specifics, neck shapes have become slightly more scooped, easing movement restriction and aiding comfort. Sleeves for women continue to be slightly capped while the sleeve shape for men has stayed the same, but for both sexes set in sleeves are preferred as they give a better fit around the shoulder. In general, recent trends in terms of sportswear are geared towards comfort and play enhancement, with the focus on cutting edge materials and streamlining for comfort and play enhancement.

There are men's and ladies' t-shirts to choose from: TL63 Tombo Teamwear Men's Performance Wicking Sports Tee and TL66 Tombo Teamwear Ladies' Performance Wicking Sports Tee. Both tees have mesh panelling underarms and at the front and back side panels, contrast piping detail, and are designed around a moisture management system that allows air to circulate around the body. Colour combinations common to both tees are navy/navy, black/black and black/red (all with white piping) while the men's style also comes in navy/white (with white piping) and white/white (with navy piping).

Both tees are semi-fitted, which provides a more streamlined shape to reduce friction, ease movement and thus enhance play.
