This series of articles is produced with embroiderers and embroidery information as its focus. The aim is to give a good working knowledge of straightforward, through to more complicated topics, for everyone operating embroidery machines.
Following on from the introductory piece at the end of last year, this article is straightforward, dealing with the types of general stitching used in producing embroidered designs. I hope this will serve as a reference point to the new embroiderer finding his or her way through the early stages of embroidery production.
The article will help the reader to understand the construction of designs, talk to their digitiser with more background knowledge to achieve better results and to start to get an eye for stitch count calculation.
To maintain the quality image that embroidery portrays, we as an industry need to keep standards as high as possible. Producing good consistent work will allow embroidery to be viewed as a high quality embellishment for all applications.
Further topics for this feature will cover correct thread applications, design fault finding and in the next issue, a full A to Z glossary of embroidery terminology.
