Jerzees helps build a school identity
Published:  07 April, 2005

When quality school clothing was needed recently, garment brand Jerzees came up with a solution that was more than satisfactory to the pupils and staff.

When the former Education Secretary, Charles Clarke, officially opened the Jack Tizard School in White City earlier this month, the pupils were also proud to unveil the new school uniform from Jerzees. Headteacher Terry Baker cited Jerzees' garments as key to developing a sense of identity within the local community.

The Jack Tizard School provides state-of-the-art facilities for children who have profound and multiple learning difficulties. While school uniform is not compulsory, pupils and staff alike have embraced the introduction of Jerzees' range and many have signed up for the complete school 'look'.

Promoted at new pupils' inductions, parents and carers have the option to purchase items such as raglan sleeve sweatshirts (762B/M), T-shirts (Zt180B), polo shirts (539B) and arctic fleece (870B), as well as bags and baseball caps, all embroidered with the school logo.

Commenting on the new schoolwear initiative, Terry Baker, said, 'Introducing a school uniform has really helped us to integrate with the local community, which is critical now we have moved to our new purpose-built premises. The uniforms have proved to be so popular that the staff has also opted to wear Jerzees' garments voluntarily.'

'On a practical level, this enables pupils and staff alike to recognise each other, for example on school outings, which is extremely important in a school such as ours, designed for children with special needs. Moving forward, the adoption of a uniform will also help further with our identity as we look to extend our Outreach Project, a continuing

scheme to offer support to staff across mainstream schools in the area'

Terry continued.

Parent and governor Julie Ryan, who has a five-year-old son at the school, added, 'We are delighted that there is a uniform option for the school. Jerzees' garments are perfect in that they come in styles, colours and shapes which are practical and appropriate to a very diverse group of pupils and, from the parents' perspective, their quality and washability

are second to none. We were also particularly pleased to know that Jerzees' garments are ethically manufactured, and this definitely influenced the school's choice of supplier.'

Explaining Jerzees' approach, Roy Scott, the firm's UK Business Manager - Schoolwear, said, 'Jerzees' name has always been synonymous with quality and consistency, both of which are of paramount importance to any school selecting a uniform.'

Roy continued, 'From a branding perspective, decoration is easy and quality consistent. From a parental perspective, garment construction, stain resistance, colour fastness, shape, and longevity combine to ensure excellent value for money. And from the Headteacher's viewpoint, any school keen to demonstrate sound procurement practices can be certain that Jerzees' schoolgear is second to none in terms of ethos but offers great value for money and outstanding lifetime value.'

Jerzees adheres to the Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production (WRAP) principles and all garments comply with Öko-Tex standards, which ensures schools can buy their range of uniform safe in the knowledge that it is produced ethically, and in sympathy with the environment.

WRAP accreditation ensures that garments are produced in accordance with its principles on the fair treatment of workers, the Russell Corporation was one of the first clothing companies to rigidly enforce such values.

Jerzees offers a wide range of easily decorated garments specifically designed as schoolwear, corporatewear and promotional wear. Each and every garment is underpinned by Jerzees' heritage of quality, reliability and ethics offering a lifetime value which is second to none.
