As part of an interiors re-design and update project at the British Film Institute (BFI), Multimount with its printing partners, EPS, mounted and printed graphics for the reception area at the BFI's Stephen Street premises.

'The original 1980s decor has been changed for a more up-to-date contemporary look,' says interior designer, Imelda Kay, who was commissioned to undertake the project. 'My brief was to make the BFI's offices and other facilities much more noticeable to visitors. The budget was not enormous but we needed a look with instant impact.'

To conceal an unsightly pillar in the centre of the offices, Multimount produced a large 1mm foamex curved panel that sat around it, providing a modern backdrop to the new bespoke reception desk, which was made in a special black mdf.

Bold bright graphics, featuring a range of images from the BFI collection of millions of film stills - including vintage and Bollywood - were selected for printing onto panels. Vinyl window graphics with a frosted glass effect, new exterior signage, aluminium perforated radiator covers and a silver mesh screen, manufactured to Imelda Kay's design, were also produced.

The full interior design also included new modern furniture, easy to care for laminate flooring, storage cupboards to keep clutter to a minimum, and TVs to play film clips.

Imelda said, 'The whole project was achieved on a remarkably low budget and as this is a public building and in use every day, all the refurbishment had to be done over weekends. But myself and Multimount rose to the challenge and the client is delighted with the final result.'
