The global reach of Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) vocational training courses has been extended with the addition of two new training locations in Thailand and the Hong Kong/Macau Special Administrative Regions.
The new locations have arisen from the agreement between SGS and the Society for SGS to administer Certificate of Competence training exclusively in certain key parts of the world. In addition to these courses in Thailand and Hong Kong/Macau, courses have also been held for the first time this year in Mauritius and Pakistan, with courses also delivered in other parts of the world, including China, Sri Lanka, India and the UK.
The gold standard in vocational training from the SDC, the competency courses cover coloration and shade matching on polyester, cotton or wool and principles of colour measurement for quality control or shade matching.
The most popular course, Colour Fastness Testing of Textiles, gives an overview of the British (BS), European (CEN) and world (ISO) standards for fastness testing and fabric stability and leads to a thorough understanding of testing, sampling, specimen preparation and grading of results.
Successful completion of the course demonstrates the candidate’s ability to correctly implement the standard test methods that play a vital part in the quality control of the modern textile and apparel supply chain.
Details of all the courses and the trainers in other parts of the world can be found on the SDC website: www.sdc.org.uk/education/trainingcourses.htm
The Society has also launched the SDC Colour Innovation Award 2008, which is open to entries that break new ground and alter the way in which people think, act, use and respond to colour.
The judges will be looking for a unique contribution to colour in any one of the following sectors: Manufacturing, Retailing, Science, Technology, Education, Media and Design
Any company, educational establishment or other organisation with a qualifying innovation introduced between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2007 can enter. In addition to a specially commissioned trophy, a prize of £1,500 is on offer plus two years' free membership of the Society’s Patron Supporter Scheme.
Deadline for submissions is 31 January 2008. For an application form, email competitions@sdc.org.uk or download a form from www.sdc.org.uk/general/downloads.htm.
