PREMIER
Published:  01 November, 2007

Since its conception Premier has aimed to provide its customers with premium products that have an emphasis on quality, style and colour consistency. This has led to a partnership with Klopman International, Europe’s leading manufacturer of poly-cotton workwear fabrics.

This Italian manufacturer’s expertise lies in the creation of fabric continuity and consistency of performance, says Premier’s marketing manager Philippa Terry. Added to this, Klopman fabrics are Oko-Tex approved and they adhere strictly to the procedures specified in ISO 15797 -– the internationally-established standard for industrial washing and finishing procedures for the testing of workwear. Thus all Klopman garments can be industrially laundered to 85ºC.

Klopman is also the first poly-cotton fabric manufacturer to be awarded European Eco-label accreditation as all its fabrics are made in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way, adds Terry. This award was designed to encourage the production and consumption of goods and services that respect the environment. Under the EU Eco-label scheme products and processes are thoroughly and independently tested according to ecological criteria which take into account all aspects of a product's life, from its production and use to its eventual disposal, making it easier for the consumer to choose products that are less harmful to the environment.

But it is only recently that Premier Clothing’s customers have begun to buy workwear on environmental criteria, says Terry. “People have historically been buying garments made from Klopman fabric because they know the brand is durable. The fact that it is also environmentally friendly has, until recently, just been a bonus.”

Boiler suits are available anywhere, admits Terry, but eco-friendly boiler suits are not. “Yes you can buy boiler suits for half the price but ours are much more durable as well as eco-friendly. That is why they are often used by laundry companies that offer cleaning/garment hire services to garages. When you are washing our workwear at 85 degrees you are guaranteed it will come out the same colour as it went in, even six months down the line.”

However, buyers’ interest in eco-friendly fabrics is still nowhere near as high as interest in ethical policies, reports Terry. ‘We get asked about our ethical policies on a regular basis. I think the reason people are possibly less interested in the environmental side is simply that they are not aware that the option to buy eco-friendly workwear exists.”

Klopman Showstar is used in the new heavy weight knee pad trouser, available in black and navy. These trousers are of a heavy construction with stretch for ease of movement. “These usp’s are possible due to the use of Klopman Showstar (260gsm), part of Klopman’s unique Comfort Stretch range of fabrics,” explains Premier. “This fabric has built-in stretch and recover qualities, as well as superior strength and durability characteristics, meaning that any type of work can be accommodated for.”

The trouser is multi pocketed, with hammer loop and has pouches for kneepads. The Premier pliable multi-segment kneepad is ergonomically designed to maximise productivity by minimising effort and discomfort and thus provides durability, comfort and protection, says Premier. The kneepad fits well into the Premier kneepad trouser and does not hinder the wearer when walking.

The Premier Work short (available in black and navy) is a knee length work short created using Klopman Indestructible 245gsm, a fabric that has been specifically developed to meet the stringent performance criteria demanded for high temperature industrial laundering and garment rental contracts.

Other workwear garments featuring Klopman includue the Stud front coverall, work coat, ladies’ work and cargo trousers, men’s cargo, chino and work trouser and three styles of tabard.

Hospitality wear

Featured in the hospitality collection are Klopman Indestructible and Klopman Superbandmaster fabrics, which offer colour consistency and durability. The range of Premier aprons include a deluxe pocket apron in nine colours, a bib apron with pocket in four colours, a bib apron in 10 colours and five varieties of waist aprons.

“Due to the repeat high temperature washing Klopman is fantastic for all our chefs’ whites, including jackets and aprons, meaning they will keep their colour, style and fit even at 85ºC,” explains Premier.

It adds: “Premier understands that consumers want to be environmentally friendly without sacrificing style and durability. Premier also knows that cover alls and workwear trousers, aprons and tabards, are just as an important part of staff uniforms as the clothes worn by office based teams. The look, quality and resilience of some staff uniforms can even be more important especially when you think about the rough, rugged, often dirty environments that these clothes experience. By choosing Premier garments made with Klopman fabric means that we can guarantee your work and hospitality wear will work for you without being hard on the environment.”
