Welcome to October…
Published:  01 October, 2007

That’s it. The summer season is well and truly over. Those of you lucky enough to go on holiday have returned and things are really starting to pick up again (not that I thought it ever got particularly quiet!). As such, this month is another jam-packed issue, bursting at the seams with information, news and topical features.

There seems to be a lot going on at the moment, with acquisitions, accreditations, expansions and new launches in just about every area of the market. On page 4 we bring you exclusive details of a new brand to market, Coolactive, which draws on its many years’ experience in the retail market with a new performance sports and leisurewear range. The news section also has details about the sale of organic company SAF, as well as the sale of specialist headwear and bag supplier The Marketing Worx.

It seems no month is complete without details of companies improving their ethical credentials, suggesting that the organic/ethical market really is here to stay. See pages 8 and 10 respectively for details of the work Mantis World and Continental Clothing are doing in this arena.

The longevity of this market is further confirmed by the results so far of Printwear & Promotion’s current online poll.We asked whether organic/ethical clothing, products and processes would ever become more than niche markets in this industry. A resounding 70% of respondents said that it would, so I guess it’s just a matter of time. There is certainly a great deal of activity in this area, as page 20’s feature on climate change and the work Continental Clothing is doing in this area proves. For those of you wondering where the ethical production page has gone, fear not, it is simply taking a break this month, but will be returning next month with information on recycling and waste reduction.

To return to the online poll for a moment – don’t forget you can suggest your own polls via the website, www.printwearandpromotion.co.uk, so if there’s something you would like to gauge industry opinion on, log on and put your suggestions forward.

I must also take this opportunity to encourage those of you reading this (and I know that some of you do!) to enter the Printwear & Promotion Excellence Awards, which will take place at the National Motorcycle Museum on the evening of Monday, March 3rd, during the exhibition next year. This is an event to recognise the achievements of the industry and its people, and to give those of you who are really doing great things the recognition you deserve. It promises to be a glittering event, so make sure you take the time to enter – if for no other reason than it’s an excuse for a great night out!

Entry is free and it couldn’t be simpler: just log on to the website and click through to ‘entry information’ under the awards panel on the right hand side to download a form.We have extended the deadline to November 30th for this inaugural event to give more companies a chance to enter. For full details on the event and sponsorship of the categories, go to page 18.

Hapy reading!
