Following heavy investment in stock, Mantis World has reduced air freight from its Tanzanian factory by over 80% this year as part of an ongoing programme to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. MD Prama Bhardwaj said: “In 2006/07 we invested in over 2 million stock garments to reduce the need for last minute airfreights.
“The strategy has worked extremely well and this year we are ahead of target on reduction of airfreights, and our customers have experienced nearly zero stock-outs. We are also working with our customers to plan their requirements in advance to avoid having to rush in goods by air.
“Although we’ve come a long way, we recognise we can, and must, make many more improvements. We are urging the whole industry to take a look at the way they operate to reduce their environmental impact.”
