Kornit, a specialist in industrial, direct to garment digital printers, has announced new capabilities on its high-end digital printer range. Kornit claims it produced the first direct to garment digital machine and says it has been a well-known leader in this field since the end of 2004. It also claims to have the lowest ink cost per print in the industry.

The company’s new waterbased inks produce screen print brightness, excellent wash fastness, crock resistance, stretch ability and pass the highest Oekotex 100 safety standards, says distributor Adelco.

“This printer and ink capability provides excellent print results on various fabrics including cotton, cotton/polyester mixes, polyester, fleece, denim and wool,” it says.

The new 932DS (single pallet) printer uses all the technology and experience that Kornit has previously supplied in the 931D (dual pallet) printers at a price that will allow a more affordable option. The new DS models now have four white print heads instead of two for faster prints onto dark fabrics. Capabilities of the 932DS and 931DS printers include:

  • The ability to produce opaque prints onto dark fabrics with a choice of one or two white base layers and CMYK with a highlight white. CMYK is printed straight over the base white with no intermediate drying required.
  • Excellent feel and wash ability on almost all fabrics including cotton, cotton/polyester mixes, wool, Lycra, viscose, denim, wool etc.
  • No films, no screens. Almost instant set up for each job enabling print jobs to be run quickly whether it’s just one print or 500.
  • Two options in level of Onyx RIP that incorporate straightforward file preparation and automated adjustments to enable base and highlight whites. Pre-installed with various ‘quicksets’ for the best image outputs on various fabrics. Accepts all file formats including jpg, pdf, eps, al and tiff.
  • Choice of pallet types including adult, children’s, sleeve and universal pallets.
  • One-man machine operation for the complete print and drying process.
  • Automatic fabric coating, adjustable to ensure the best print quality on all fabric types and thickness. New fabric profiles can be easily saved and reloaded.
  • On machine LCD screen with various functions to control machine/print head maintenance, print position, number of prints, fabric profiles and print job queuing.
  • Inks cured through conventional hot air conveyor textile dryers.
  • Spectra industrial print heads, designed to operate 24/7 for years.
  • Full training and support from Adelco on machine operation and maintenance.
Dryers

To ensure a full cure with the latest Kornit water based inks, Kornit recommends high velocity Jet Air dryers to maximise curing and minimise heat affect to fabrics. Adelco manufactures standard conveyor dryers in gas gired or electric options as well as return belt dryers that take the garments back to the feed section so that the machine operator can fold and bag the garment in one operation. Return Belt dryers are also available in gas fired or electric versions. Gas fired dryers are more popular due to savings in running costs, says Adelco. They are also a little kinder to fabrics as the gas burner creates a small amount of moisture, which helps to reduce discoloration of sensitive fabrics.

Adelco recommends split belt options when running two Kornit machines to allow independent curing times when running dark fabrics and white fabrics on each machine.
