The line-up includes a dozen of the new ‘soft shell’ styles that are this year’s innovation in outerwear. “Far from taking over from fleece, which is what many predicted, soft shell styles have created their own niche,” says PenCarrie’s customer services manager Andrea Charteris. “The look is completely different; the fabric finish is sleeker and the overall image is more sophisticated.” So who is buying them? “Soft shell jackets are proving popular for all sorts of situations,” says Charteris, “and they are being bought for smart promotional wear in city centres as much as for active outdoor wear around boats and sports grounds.” One best seller, one of several styles for women, is Result’s RS122F Ladies La Femme® Soft Shell Jacket, which on the practical side is windproof, water resistant and breathable. On the other, adds Charteris, it is “a super looking garment, beautifully shaped in the body and with an imaginative zip-off interchangeable collar system which gives you three different coloured collars for each jacket”.

Charteris is also enthusiastic about the highperformance jackets that come with an impressive technical specification, such as the PR820 GORETEX ® Outerwear Glencoe 2 Layer Jacket by Premier. “Performance jackets offer decorators excellent profit potential as similar jackets available in retail sell for very high prices; and, reassuringly, decoration is remarkably straightforward. Premier’s PR820 can be embroidered at four prime locations and will still be 100 per cent waterproof.”

PenCarrie also offers plenty of other jackets, each with their own set of special features. New styles for this year include a number for women, such as Result’s RS69F Ladies La Femme® Kelvin® Extreme Weather Jacket. This comes in two feminine colourways of either ice blue with navy; or rose pink with winter pink. It is an ideal choice for the ski slopes as well as for more rugged action wear (the men’s equivalent jacket is coded RS69M). Result’s RS81F Ladies La Femme® Zhico Down Feel Winter Jacket is less high spec but a good cosy choice and is matched by the RS81M Zhico Down Feel Winter Jacket for men.The same soft touch polyester Ripstop outer and down feel Dexfil™ padding is used for Result’s RS82F Ladies La Femme® Moscow Down Feel Long Coat, which has a lined hood with a removable fake ‘fur’ trim. This coat is elegant as well as snuggly and, according to PenCarrie, is ‘particularly adored’ by promotions girls whose role involves a lot of standing, rather than being active, while outdoors in winter.

Midweight jackets, such as Kariban’s KB677 Parka Jacket, are good autumn choices and many, like the KB677, are windproof and water resistant. The KB677 is unusual in that it is available in 12 different colours. It has a high collar with fleece lining, a concealed hood, and a full zip with studded storm flap. A lighter weight style with a difference is Slazenger’s SL45 “2-in-1” Windbreaker/Bodywarmer, which is showerproof too. This is an excellent choice for warmer autumnal days as it has detachable zip-off sleeves. Exuding Slazenger style, and making good use of contrast panelling, this zip neck jacket comes in five different colourways.
