With new developments and a mission to take transfer technology further, Xpres told Dan Raywood about what developments 2005 will see.
Celebrating 25 years in business in 2005, Xpres has remained right at the forefront of the transfer technology industry. Always forward thinking and with a real commitment to furthering the capabilities of digital garment decoration, Xpres is once again looking to astound and impress with its latest developments in full colour transfer production and the Easy Cut transfer material.
Xpres have previously worked wonders with the sublimation process and entry level digital transfer packages for the decorator, and in 2005 the trend for affordable packages and technology continues.
Sitting alongside the best selling Xpres Cut and sublimation systems, a more recent development from Xpres has been the Ultragraphics system. This package consists of the Xpres Cut cutter to produce single colour transfers and a 2800dpi printer to allow the production of full colour transfers using either regular or sublimation ink.
Marketing Director Mark Robinson said, 'A major advantage of the Ultragraphics system is that graduations of colour are achievable that cannot be accurately produced with other forms of decoration'. The printing capability is a real highlight, as even the smallest font is reproduced to a clear and precise quality.
The transfers can be applied via a heatpress to any colour poly/cotton, cotton or polyester garment and are durable enough to withstand high temperature washing, dry cleaning and can be tumble dried. Mark adds, 'These transfers really can go on anything. They can be stretched with no damage or breakage in the decoration, unlike some screen printing inks that will crack on exertion.'
At the Printwear & Promotion exhibition, Xpres will introduce a revised version of their best selling Easy Cut material. Used in conjunction with the Xpres Cut system, Easy Cut is available in 27 different colours including glitter and metallic finishes.
Easy Cut has been improved in two ways. Firstly, the overall quality of the material has been further developed to give superior durability. Transfers cut from Easy Cut can be dry cleaned, industrial washed, tumble dried and even ironed over, without fear of causing any damage. It is therefore particularly suitable for workwear applications.
The second development to Easy Cut relates to improvements in the ease of weeding that has been created. In the past, the weeding process (removing excess material to leave only the finished transfer) has been slow due to the necessary care that is required to ensure the transfer is not damaged or corrupted by removing the rest of the material too quickly.
Xpres have been aware of this problem and have rectified it by developing a new formulation in the material that allows the decorator to simply pull the waste material away quickly whilst leaving the transfers undisturbed.
The backing material is also now transparent, making the positioning of a transfer even easier. Easy Cut is approved as Oeko Tex Class 1, the top category in the certification. Mark said, 'Quite simply, cuttable transfer materials don't get any better than this.'
