Demand for organic cotton clothing has grown in the past few years, particularly as consumers begin to question the true cost of cheap and disposable clothing, says Mantis. “With the current global awareness of the impact of climate change there is a growing demand for products which are kinder to the environment and are not mass produced using a plethora of artificial chemicals,” it says. “News stories of exploited labour in countries such as China and Bangladesh means buyers are asking more questions about the origin of their garments. We source the bulk of our range, including all organic cotton production, from our affiliated factories in Tanzania, East Africa, offering fair employment and much needed income to this region.

The company’s organic cotton is certified by EcoCert International and it follows the standards of the Ethical Trade Initiative Base Code to guarantee working conditions and fair trade terms for its factories. Farmers who grow the organic Cotton are paid a premium on average 20% above the conventional cotton price, giving them a boost to their income and allowing them to increase the standard of living for themselves and their families.

With this in mind, Mantis World has extended the TLC collection over the last two years to cover a total of nine styles, spanning the entire age range from adults to kids to babies and for both sexes. For 2007 it has added a new corporate/fashion influenced colour, Vintage Red to complement the existing Organic Natural (ecru) colourway.

TLC styles now include the M1-TLC Organic Women’s Skinny Tee and M2-TLC Organic Men’s Fitted T-shirt in both Organic Natural and Vintage Red, which complement the HM1-TLC Organic Girl’s T-shirt and the HM2-TLC Organic Boy’s T-shirt.
