You don’t have to be skinny, nor indeed do you necessarily have to be fit to wear Skinnifitmen. Wearing the clothes won’t work wonders with your pecs, nor will it transform a couch potato into an Olympic athlete. What Skinnifitmen does offer, however, is “a range of carefully thought out menswear that fits well, looks good and reflects what’s happening within the retail sector”.
“Skinnifitmen, now in its third year, was introduced in response to demand from customers for menswear that had the same basic principles as Skinnifit for women – namely a real and credible approach to the look of the garment, and an understanding of modern fit, with the same attention to detail and quality standards that the womenswear brand has come to signify,” says the company.
“Skinnifitmen’s design philosophy is simple: every style should be easy to wear, with a modern aesthetic that reflects what’s happening within retail and high street environments.”
However, the team at Skinnifitmen is keen to stress that it’s not just a young man’s brand. “Skinnifitmen looks at trends and style, not just what’s hottest on the high street. These longerlasting looks when combined with the brand’s high quality standards, results in clothing that can be worn over and over again whilst still looking fresh and new.”
Menswear itself, though undeniably occupying a greater percentage of the market than womenswear, has been seriously lagging behind in terms of style, says Skinnifitmen. This meant that, until the advent of brands such as Skinnifitmen, the options for companies looking for a contemporary base for their own brand or logo were negligible, it says.
Skinnifitmen knows that fit has an enormous impact upon the happiness of the wearer, so the development process includes trying garments on all shapes and size of men until the fit and look is right.
“The fit of menswear, whilst not as changeable as womenswear, is still subject to variations in trend and it’s this subtle attention to detail that can make all the difference between looking ‘so now’ and ‘oh so yesterday’,” it says. “The best men’s T-shirt fit is definitely slimmer than before, and can be worn just as easily under a shirt or jersey.”
It’s also important to get the fabric absolutely right for the garment: to ensure comfort and performance. Cotton is ideal for T-shirts due to its natural thermal properties and absorbance.
“This year menswear is all about not trying too hard,” says Skinnifitmen. “Think garments that you can wear everyday. This doesn’t mean baggy nor does it involve elbow length “short sleeves”, dropped shoulders, or tent-like T’s.
“Likewise, it does not mean fashion victim. What it does entail is everyday, good looking and versatile modern clothing that feels great. Quite simple really.”
