GREAT EXPECTATIONS

Evo Clothing md John Sunderland looks at some of the issues to consider when stocking up for the Rugby World Cup

The England team is entering the Rugby World Cup this year as World Champions so there is a lot of expectation for them to perform well.

Recently though,Wales and Ireland have shown greater promise and the Scots can always cause an upset. France and Italy also boast strong talented teams and that is without mentioning South Africa and Australia, Oh, and don’t forget the All Blacks.

High profile competitions such as this create a frenzy of buying from supporters who want to wear their country’s colours and be a part of the occasion. Some companies use the interest generated as a springboard to raise the profile of their company – offering promotional rugby shirts and T-shirts is not only a lasting memory of the event but a lasting advert for the company providing the shirt.

With the Rugby World Cup being hosted in France and with some of the qualifying games being played in UK, it will have primetime TV coverage and is guaranteed to be the focus of attention of the whole population of the country for the duration.

But when all is said and done, it makes the job of ordering stock for supporters’ rugby shirts a minefield of judgments.

Evo Clothing’s answer is to stockpile plain garments that can be converted into supporters’ shirts at the drop of a hat. With over £1m of stock on the floor and the capacity to embroider 40,000 garments per week it hopes to be in a position to cover all eventualities.

Evo Clothin md John Sunderland is no stranger to this type of event, having been the supplier of the licensed merchandise for the UEFA Euro ‘96 European Championships,World Cup France ‘98 and Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002.

He has been supplying corporate wear, printwear and sportswear for over 20 years and became heavily involved with Rugby clothing when he approached KooGa in 2000 to manufacture their replica shirts.

“As the KooGa brand grew to become one of the leaders in rugby performance wear, the replica and leisurewear followed suit and now EVO clothing stocks a full range of KooGa garments, which all complement each other and can be printed or embroidered with a club logo to create a very professional look,” he says.

With the Rugby World Cup in mind, Evo Clothing has designed a range of rugby shirts with a fitted look, in a comfortable performance cotton elastine fabric that is specifically designed for the supporters. These are available in the international team colours and are available with team embroidered crests.

Evo Clothing supplies complete team kits for rugby clubs including: playing rugby kits; warm-up tracksuits; polo shirts, fleeces and jackets to wear travelling to games; and dress shirts and ties for the post match dinners.

“Rugby teamwear is only a part what EVO Clothing supplies,” explains Sunderland. “The Bruntwood clothing brand was created in 1996 and has been a leader in developing new styles of polo shirts and rugby shirts for corporate clients.”
