At the beginning of the year Gildan completed its first community project in Bangladesh.

The Dendabor National School in Dhaka was refurbished by Gildan, with repairs including general maintenance, fresh paint for the entire building, the construction of two new classrooms and a room intended for the teachers.

Gildan also provided the school with desks and air fans for use in the new classrooms.

The school houses approximately 1,600 children from the surrounding community where Gildan’s facilities are located.

An opening ceremony took place at the end of February, where representatives from Gildan’s Bangladesh operations and human resources manufacturing presented the new facilities to the teachers and parents and offered school supplies for the children.

Claudia Sandoval, vice-president, corporate citizenship – Central America and the Caribbean, said: “We are pleased to have been able to support our Bangladesh employees since the acquisition of the facility by improving their working conditions and extending our support to their community.

“We are committed to further develop our community engagement initiatives in the country by enhancing our contributions towards educational projects, as we do in other regions.”
